{"id":33481,"date":"2022-02-15T11:42:55","date_gmt":"2022-02-15T11:42:55","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.neurodegenerationresearch.eu\/?p=33481"},"modified":"2022-02-15T11:42:55","modified_gmt":"2022-02-15T11:42:55","slug":"ebra-releases-mapping-report-investment-in-european-brain-research-still-vital","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/neurodegenerationresearch.eu\/fr\/2022\/02\/ebra-releases-mapping-report-investment-in-european-brain-research-still-vital\/","title":{"rendered":"EBRA releases Mapping Report: investment in European brain research still vital"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The EU-funded European Brain Research Area project today releases its long-awaited<br \/>\nEuropean Research Inventory and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ebra.eu\/mapping-report\/\">Mapping Report<\/a>, providing insight into the brain research<br \/>\nactivities funded at the European level within the EU framework programmes FP7 and Horizon<br \/>\n2020, as well as the funding initiatives of the EU Joint Programme \u2013 Neurodegenerative Disease<br \/>\nResearch (JPND), ERA-NET NEURON and the Human Brain Project.The mapping report<br \/>\nprovides an overview of the current state of brain research in Europe and which areas within<br \/>\nbrain research, if any, are the focus in Europe. It evidences that despite steadily increasing<br \/>\nsupport, funding is still lacking in all areas of brain research in the EU and more focus is<br \/>\nparticularly needed on the importance of animal models, increasing public patient engagement<br \/>\nand encouraging and enabling data sharing.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEBRA\u2019s mapping reports highlights that constant support and increased investment in brain<br \/>\nresearch is still vital,\u201d reacts EBRA Project Coordinator, Prof Monica Di Luca. \u201cDespite enormous<br \/>\nefforts of the scientific and clinical community, the challenges in the brain space are tremendous,<br \/>\nspurred by a high prevalence of brain disorders and increasing disease burden.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The need for efficiency in funding brain research is also clear: budgets should be allocated in<br \/>\nsuch a way that allows brain researchers to deliver high quality research and support of<br \/>\ninitiatives that aim to reduce fragmentation, and collaboration and cooperation should be<br \/>\nprioritised. Stakeholders need to be able to work more effectively together to better leverage<br \/>\ntheir collective knowledge and succeed in delivering game-changing innovative treatment<br \/>\nsolutions.<\/p>\n<p>From 2007 to 2019, the European Commission and leading European brain research initiatives<br \/>\nhave allocated \u20ac6 billion to about 4,000 brain research projects, an average of \u20ac500 million per<br \/>\nyear. From 2008 to 2012, an average of 400 million was invested per year, increasing between<br \/>\n2014 to 2018 to 550 million, marking a steady growth. \u00ab\u00a0The EBRA inventory and mapping report<br \/>\ndemonstrates that annual fundings can reach significant levels to support highly competitive<br \/>\nresearch projects through sustainable, transnational initiatives,\u201d remarks Prof Philippe Amouyel,<br \/>\nChair of the EU Joint Programme \u2013 Neurodegenerative Disease Research (JPND).
