TREM2 amino-acid-substitution mutation R47H increases the risk of Alzheimer disease in people of European descent. <\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Several studies have reported the TREM2 R47H mutation to be a risk factor for Alzheimer&#8217;s disease (AD), but the magnitude of this mutation&#8217;s role in AD and other neurodegenerative diseases has been far from clear.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe effect size estimates varied widely across datasets,\u201d says lead author of this study, Christina Lill University of L\u00fcbeck, Germany.<\/p>\n<p>The results, published in the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nature.com\/nrneurol\/journal\/vaop\/ncurrent\/full\/nrneurol.2015.84.html%20\">journal Alzheimer\u2019s &amp; Dementia<\/a>, suggest the mutation contributes through tau
