{"id":12378,"date":"2018-02-02T15:21:02","date_gmt":"2018-02-02T15:21:02","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.neurodegenerationresearch.eu\/?p=12378"},"modified":"2018-02-02T15:21:02","modified_gmt":"2018-02-02T15:21:02","slug":"diabetes-medicine-reduces-parkinsons-risk","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/neurodegenerationresearch.eu\/pt-pt\/2018\/02\/diabetes-medicine-reduces-parkinsons-risk\/","title":{"rendered":"Diabetes medicine reduces Parkinson&#8217;s risk"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A new study shows that the taking of diabetes medicine reduces the risk of getting Parkinson\u00b4s disease.<\/p>\n<p>Researchers have discovered that medical treatment against diabetes reduces the risk of getting Parkinson\u00b4s disease by 35 percent.<\/p>\n<p>The researchers believe that diabetes medicines, containing glitazones, are influencing the cells to produce more mitochondria. Mitochondria are the powerhouse of the cells, transforming nutrients that the cells need to work.<\/p>\n<p>The research group has previously shown that the production of mitochondria decreases during Parkinson\u00b4s.<\/p>\n<p>To see the connection between diabetes and Parkinson\u00b4s, the researchers analysed and compared data from the Norwegian Prescription Data Base.
