{"id":9829,"date":"2017-10-19T12:28:04","date_gmt":"2017-10-19T12:28:04","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.neurodegenerationresearch.eu\/?p=9829"},"modified":"2017-10-19T12:28:04","modified_gmt":"2017-10-19T12:28:04","slug":"artificial-intelligence-predicts-dementia-before-onset-of-symptoms","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/neurodegenerationresearch.eu\/sl\/2017\/10\/artificial-intelligence-predicts-dementia-before-onset-of-symptoms\/","title":{"rendered":"Artificial Intelligence Predicts Dementia Before Onset of Symptoms"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>New artificial intelligence research has demonstrated the predictive capability of AI to determine in advance who is likely to develop dementia.<\/p>\n<p>Scientists used artificial intelligence techniques and big data to develop an algorithm capable of recognizing the signatures of dementia two years before its onset, using a single amyloid PET scan of the brain of patients at risk of developing Alzheimer\u2019s disease. Their findings appear in a new study published in the journal <em>Neurobiology of Aging.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Scientists have long known that a protein known as amyloid accumulates in the brain of patients with mild cognitive impairment (MCI), a condition that often leads to dementia.
