The University of Oxford MRC CiC pipeline is underpinned by one of the most productive biomedical discovery and translational science environments in Europe. This CiC4 application will capitalise on the high demand for CiC funding, the many emerging successes of previous rounds and the robust governance, monitoring and mentoring structure to support translational science and to identify, fund and maximally support up to 30 new, high quality, proof of concept CiC4 projects. We have identified vaccine science, inflammation, cancer, diabetes, dementia/psychiatry, rare diseases and links with physical sciences as key areas of opportunity for translational research at Oxford. We will use CiC4 to fund early stage translational projects in these areas and support them through collaboration with the Oxford Biomedical Research Centre, the Oxford Academic Health Sciences Network and with industry. In this application for CiC4 there is a major new focus on interdisciplinary translational research and match funding from industry or investor partners. CiC will also be embedded within significantly enhanced efforts to promote innovation at Oxford. We will be implementing the Oxford Innovation Strategy by making major changes to support a culture of innovation at Oxford through academic leadership, reward and recognition, improved training opportunities and improved support services. In CiC4 we seek to integrate CiC within this structure through improved translational support for CiC awardees.
