Huntington's disease
Huntington’s disease (HD) is the most common inherited neurodegenerative disorder. It is characterized by progressive motor dysfunction, cognitive decline and psychiatric disturbances. There is currently no cure for this disease. The production of certain lipid molecules that are important for normal functioning of brain cells is impaired in HD. The aim of this proposal is to investigate the consequences of reduced lipid synthesis in HD brain and to test whether restoring normal levels of these important neural molecules improves HD symptoms and slows down disease progression. Supported by encouraging preliminary results, our studies will potentially identify new therapeutic interventions for the cure of HD.
