Dementia caregiving might be supported by leveraging the potentials of Information and Communication Technologies (ICT). Home4Dem aims to develop and market an innovative ICT platform to improve the quality of life of People with Dementia (PwD) and their caregivers, enabling them to live at home independently and to maintain an active social life. The AAL-solution will be an innovative and modular, third generation, ICT platform, created by integrating two existing systems into one: the Italian ´Up-Tech´ and the Swiss DomoCareTM system. The solution will include: a) sensors for home safety used by Up-Tech and DomoCare; b) additional sensors, e.g. emergency button, humidity alerts, anti-theft alarms, etc. c) a new kinect-based depth-analysis function, which provide more accurate information and feedback to the user himself regarding activities such as reminders for food intake or adherence to drug prescriptions; d) a smart behavior analysis algorithm which will interact with the users, providing real-time feedback in the home. This solution will be offered as a product for families in the market to answer their personal needs (safety, support, prevention). It will also enhance the effectiveness of existing care and social services. In this case, the professional carers will be the primary users. Over 600 end users will take part in all project activities starting from the baseline context analysis, through the design and development of the solution, ending with the pilot.
