Research Abstract


Silver Memories is a 24 hour a day community operated nostalgia radio service for the aged based on Reminiscence Therapy principles. It is transmitted across Australia by satellite. Silver Memories is endorsed by Alzheimer’s Australia (Qld) and is used in their dementia behaviour management service in Brisbane.
We will install the Silver Memories satellite receiving equipment into six aged care homes in the Rockhampton /Biloela area.
?We wish to employ a music therapist to work with these 6 aged care homes in regional Queensland to explore how the Silver Memories service can be fully integrated into the activities of the homes to provide a non-pharmacological approach to managing the effects of Alzheimer’s Disease and to improve well being in residents. The music therapist would then develop an online resource to facilitate exchange of ideas and suggestions for the use of the service.
