Research abstract in English

In Project 1(Early Detection), we will identify the needs of two groups, namely the known patients Zellingen and the known patients among GPs in the same region. In addition, we describe the patient characteristics and characteristics of caregivers. In Project 2 (Implementation) we will offer an intervention, where an indication exists. Alsoo there will be specific attention to immigrants. Within two years, best practices are implemented at homecare: Early Detection of dementia, recognizing styles of care and the ABC-communication method in problem behaviors of people with dementia. 94 students from University Rotterdam have participated in the workshop. The effect is: homecare workers were enthusiastic about the dementia group, many ideas to improve quality of care are developped; 94 students got acquainted with people with dementia, with the burden of caregivers and with the complexity of care. The specialist nurse finds the workshop a source of inspiration, her expertise is noticed by the chain partners; the number of referrals in one year time quadrupled. 60 pairs of clients will be followed for one year. The monitoring will report on the progress concerning the interventions carried out, on the signaling, and on the barriers and facilitators. It will be reported on developments concerning the quality of life.
