Neuropsychiatric problems in dementia are important predictors of nursing home admission. However, also during admission neuropsychiatric symptoms are often problematic for patients and their surroundings. Professional caregivers have to deal with it on a daily basis, which can increase job strain and stress. Neuropsychiatric problems can also decrease the quality of life of patients, sometimes due to medication side effects. There is a lack of knowledge on the influence of the psychosocial context in the nursing home on patient behavioral symptoms in dementia. The current project focuses on the care context (physical as well as psychosocial aspects) in the nursing home on the onset and course of neuropsychiatric problems in dementia patients. It is a longitudinal study with a follow-up of 1 year and measurements every 3 months. Assessments take place in dementia patients, professional caregivers and informal caregivers. In total 200 patients will be included.
